Privacy Policy / Data Protection / Handling of Personal Data

1. Introduction

Vontobel is committed to complying with data protection laws and to thus ensuring the protection and confidentiality of your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we utilise data that you provide to us when using our website.

Our Privacy Policy only applies to the data generated when you visit our website, as detailed below.

Please read our Privacy Policy carefully before accessing our website and, in particular, before entering any personal data. By accessing the Vontobel website, you confirm that you agree to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this statement, do not proceed to any further pages of our website.

Our website includes hyperlinks to websites which are provided and maintained by third parties. We have no control over the content of such websites and the data protection practices that apply to such websites. Accordingly, we accept no responsibility for or liability in respect of such websites, and advise you to review the Privacy Policy of such websites before accessing them.

2. Collection of data

We collect only personal information that you provide to us voluntarily, e.g. when making an enquiry, as part of a registration or when using certain services. Personal data that is not anonymous, such as postal and e-mail addresses provided when submitting enquiries or requesting information, will be used primarily for the purpose of corresponding with you or sending you information, e.g. where a newsletter has been requested (see para. 5. below).

Every time a user accesses the Vontobel website and every time a data file is retrieved, data relating to this procedure will be stored temporarily in a data log and processed, e.g. by using cookie technology. The specific data stored for each access/retrieval include the following: IP address, web browser, domain name, the time and date, the page accessed/name of file requested, the volume of data transferred, access status, i.e. if the access/request was successful. Anonymous information (e.g. data collected through the use of cookies) will only be used for statistical purposes and for the purpose of improving our website. Such data will subsequently be deleted. We will also use such non-personal information to make your use of our website easier. For example, we may use cookies to store your selected country of residence for the duration of a session so that you do not have to repeatedly enter the information.

Cookies
You acknowledge and agree to "cookies" technology being used in certain instances to provide you with information tailored to your needs. A cookie is an information file stored on a computer's hard drive to ensure that it is recognised again on future visits to the Vontobel website. Your data will not at any time be linked to the personal data recorded at Vontobel.

Web analytics services
We use various web analytics services such as Webtrends, an analytics service provided by Webtrends Inc., or Google Analytics (for selected applications), a network analytics service provided by Google Inc. The web analytics services use cookies (cf. section above), which evaluate the use of our digital presence to obtain information for the purposes of improving our services and carrying out a statistical evaluation of our visitor traffic.

We have however activated an IP anonymization function on this website. In such a case, the web analysis services promise that it will not be possible to identify any individuals. The information generated in the process is transferred to a server abroad, in particular in the U.S., and stored there. Subsequently, the generated information may be combined with other data of the web analysis services. You can prevent cookies from being stored by adjusting the settings of your browser software accordingly (cf. following section).

Data collection and storage can be withdrawn at any time with future effect. For more information, see the Webtrends Privacy Statement or the Google Analytics privacy policy.

You herewith give your express consent to this process.

On some pages of our website, we request your consent to disclose data to third parties and to utilize data for advertising purposes. By completing the corresponding form, you give your consent that the data collected by us may be used not only by us but also by other Vontobel Group companies in order to maintain Group-wide client relationships and to provide information about new products. In addition, you consent to your personal data being processed and utilized by us and other Vontobel Group companies for advertising or market research purposes or to structure services according to client needs. The data collected may be disclosed to service providers outside Switzerland or outside the country in which the user is domiciled. These service providers are required to treat as confidential the information and all data collected and to use it exclusively for the purposes for which it is provided.

Companies, agents and third-party service providers associated with Vontobel that have access to personal data collected via the Vontobel website have to comply with data protection requirements. In the event that any personal data are transferred to other countries, we ensure that the applicable laws and regulations are complied with by, for example, concluding agreements that ensure the recipients of your data maintain an appropriate level of data protection.

Certain countries may have more stringent data protection provisions which may not allow your non-anonymous personal data to be used in these countries to the extent described above. Such provisions may preclude, for example, the collection of additional personal data based on information you provided or the disclosure of your personal data to other parties or companies.

No personal data are sold to other parties.
